On 14th of March, the fisheries management plan for the Lower Bua River was presented to Nkhotakota District council in Malawi. The meeting was facilitated by Mr. Moffat Mzama Manase, Deputy Director - Quality Assurance at the Department of Fisheries; and by Ms. Thokozire Gwaza Kwalira, an intern at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources.  Live Streams is supporting Thokozire’s inputs to the development and implementation of the management plan, which was prepared with the participation of local organisations.  The Vice-Chancellor of LUANAR, Professor Emmanuel Kaunda, is one of the architects of the management plan and he continues to be actively engaged in the process.

During the meeting, members of the District Executive Council Committee were briefed on the key features of the management plan and the process used to prepare it.  Constructive discussions followed the briefing and these helped to strengthen ownership of the management plan by the Committee and other participants.  The plan was accepted and the Committee confirmed that it will provide guidance on holding a ceremony to officially launch the management plan in the near future.
