Summary

Nature Tanzania, a non-government organisation which is committed to engaging communities in nature conservation, runs a bi-annual two-week training course for young conservationists in Tanzania.  The course is called Biodiversity Monitoring Training & Mentoring Program (BiMO).  It enables graduates, early career researchers and staff in conservation organisations to learn ecological techniques through hands-on learning in the field.  The activities take place in the Amani Forest Nature Reserve, a globally important hotspot for biodiversity of fauna and flora, and two courses are usually run each year.

Live Streams sponsored the training of the 6th cohort of ten participants which was conducted on 17-28 May 2025.  The course used a similar curriculum to previous BIMO training events but included additional activities specifically related to ecological monitoring in mountain stream habitats.  The training was facilitated by Dr Jasson John, senior lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam, and Edwin Kamugisha, program officer at Nature Tanzania.  Further input was provided by local technicians.  See more
