We are funding a two-week training course for ten young conservationists in Tanzania.  The course will be run by Nature Tanzania, a non-government organisation which is committed to engaging communities in nature conservation. In pursuit of this aim Nature Tanzania introduced a programme called Biodiversity Monitoring Training & Mentoring Program (BiMO). Through BiMO, graduates, early career researchers and staff in conservation organisations learn ecological techniques through hands-on learning in the field.  The activities take place in the Amani Forest Nature Reserve, a globally important hotspot for biodiversity of fauna and flora and two courses are usually run each year .  The course we are funding uses the same approach as previous BIMO training events but also incorporates specific activities related to ecological monitoring in mountain stream habitats.  It will be managed by Emmanuel Mgimwa, Nature Tanzania's Executive Director, with technical coordination provided by Dr Jasson John who is a well-known ecologist at the University of Dar es Salaam.  Several other people will contribute to the training including a biodiversity expert from Amani, Mr Aloyce Mkongewa, and an alumnus from an earlier BiMO course, Ms Janeth Mngulwi.  We will keep you updated on the progress of the training on our Facebook page.
