Live Streams has supported recent monitoring of progress in the implementation of the Lower Bua River Fisheries Management Plan.  Ms Thokozire Kwalira joined staff from the Chizuma and Mphikaphika Riverine Village Committees (RVC) to view river restoration activities and discuss challenges and future actions.  So far, a total of 5,000 bamboo trees and 250 trees of other species have been planted along the river banks.  This will help to stabilize the river banks and generate income for the community.

Members of the RVC have joined officials from the Department of Fisheries to raise awareness on sustainable fishing practices and confiscate illegal fishing gear.  Plans for future actions include distributing copies of the management plan in the local language, continuing to monitor illegal fishing activities and carrying out additional awareness raising activities.
